The kids birthdays were pretty low-key this year. We have something big coming up in November so we decided to keep things simple for birthdays. Not to mention the fact that both their birthdays are at the beginning of the school year- not a good time for Mom to be planning parties. For John’s birthday we had some friend over for playing, hot dogs and cake. For Alexandra we had cake at home (two birthdays plus our anniversary within three weeks of each other; Septembers are not good for my hips!) and went to the Plano balloon festival the next day.

Alexandra’s 3rd birthday cake (notice how dangerously close the ponytails are to her candle!!)

This is the first time she blew out her candle all on her own:

Great picture of Tony & John- just wish he wasn’t sucking on that pacifier!

Grandma and Grandpa Gamble sent the kids some wonderful Easter outfits this year. Alexandra loves the dress, she calls it her “princess dress” and would stay in it all day if we let her. Here they are looking just too cute, if I do say so myself

This year we went to two Easter Egg hunts. Alexandra was really into it and was able to keep up with the big kids (pretty much). The first one was on Friday and was a smaller affair with a new moms groups that I have joined. The second one was on Saturday and was much bigger, and it was with my old-standby group that I just love
Both days were windy and chilly. John hung out in the stroller and Alexandra ran around playing with friends.
John enjoying the view from his stroller
Alexandra hunting down the eggs and filling her basket
Both kiddos were wiped out when we got home
The next day at the second hunt Alexandra was upset because she had to wait for the adults to hide the eggs
Looking back to make sure she didn’t miss any eggs

Contrary to popular belief, the Texas state flower is not a yellow rose (that song is actually about a woman), but the bluebonnet. At this time of year, fields of this beautiful wildflower pop up all over the state. It’s a tradition to take pictures of cute kids lounging in the dense fields of blue. Not too far from us, I heard that there was a great field. So, I decided to take the kids out for our first set of bluebonnet pictures. I think they turned out pretty good, but now it’s got me wanting a better camera for next year

At the end of the day Alexandra loves to drag all her bed linens into the family room and make a pallet on the floor. Whoever is in the room with her must get under the covers and “go sleep.” John isn’t always a willing participant. This time, he seemed to be having fun

This year, Alexandra was a ladybug for Halloween. The costume has a cute little hood with ladybug antennae, but she absolutely refused to wear it. I took Alexandra trick or treating around the neighborood this year and it was a lot of fun. First off, Alexandra doesn’t walk- she runs. Think Forrest Gump. So, by the end of the night I was pooped from running from house to house with her. The next night we went to Shawna & Scott’s Halloween party, there are a few pictures from that as well.
One of my wanna-be hobbies is cake decorating. I’d love to actually take a class and become good at it. But, until then, I just make a few cakes a year that kind of look like something. See if you figure out what my latest creation is supposed to be
Alexandra’s reaction when we tried to get her to wear the costume’s hood
Back home later that night having some candy
My cake creation. Can you tell what it’s supposed to be? Well, at least it tasted good
Miss Ladybug at the party
This Halloween, Alexandra kept saying over and over that everything was “spooky.” I think she learned that word on Dora or Diego. Anyway, when she saw this at the party, she definitely thought it was spooky. I think it’s pretty cool
Here’s John chilling in his seat. He always looks surprised when the camera flashes
I never imagined how hard it would be to get a decent picture of the two of them together. This took about 20 shots to get
Here is a shot of Alexandra attempting to hold John that night
By contrast, here she is doing the same thing 2 months ago. You can really see how much he has grown

Today I tried to get a few pictures of Alexandra holding her brother. John was not really into it; he started to fuss and Alexandra tried to quiet him down. It was so cute, I just has to switch my camera to video mode
